Library Tracker

Background
How often do you arrive at the library only to realize that there are no spaces to sit? How much time do you waste looking for a spot, sometimes never finding one?

How might we modify and centralize existing resources regarding libraries to make finding a study spot more effective and efficient?
User Research Insights
From surveying other college students we gained some insight into how much time students really spend looking for spots at the library, and other statistics related to their library visits. It became apparent that the need not being met was a convenient way to check library capacity.
Ideation
Going into this project I had already come up with some ideas as to how we might approach the issue a separate app that allows students to check availability, a display monitor outside the library, and a website dedicated to library information.
Since Berkeley already has a library website I chose to create a widget style integration into the current web layout that displays library information. Then when deciding between making an app or monitor, I decided on app since I felt a monitor would still require students to walk to the library which is less convenient for students living far from campus.
